NUM, Implats reach strike agreement

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) tells Business Live that it has reached an agreement with Impala Platinum that will see 15 000 workers being re-employed with the benefits and conditions that they enjoyed before the strike started.
NUM, Implats reach strike agreement

The announcement was made after Implats held an emergency meeting with the NUM and the Congress of South African Trade Unions.

Impala says the 8763 workers who had reapplied for their positions will not be paid for the days on strike. The application process for other workers who want to go back to work at the mine will remain open until 15pm on 29 February.

From 1 March, the recruitment process at the mine will revert to normal employment procedures and people will be given jobs on a first-come-first-served basis.

Meanwhile Implats says that it has lost production of 100 000 ounces of platinum as a result of the protracted strike action.
