Toffie Food festival gets international flavourist

World-renowned food flavourist Marie Wright, who creates the enticing tastes that ends up in shopping baskets every day, is joining the line-up of local and international speakers at the first Toffie Food Festival and Conference, which takes place in the Cape Town City Hall 3-4 September 2011.

Wright is one of less than a 1000 full-time food flavourists worldwide. Based at IFF headquarters in New York, she has already invented over 1000 flavours for major food and beverage companies, including bourbon vanilla for coffee beans, apple-peach for cookies and rosemary and garlic for crackers. Her clients include potato chips manufacturers to toothpaste and ice cream companies. Most flavourists specialise in sweet, savoury or beverage flavour - Marie does all three.

Other food experts included in the line-up include: Julie Powell (US) from the movie Julie & Julia, ex-managing editor of ID magazine and now cookbook specialist Eloise Alemany (Argentina), rock star chef and food blogger Kobus van der Merwe (SA), Gourmand World Cookbook Award winner Renata Coetzee (SA) and Anna Trapido (SA) presenting a tasting lunch on the story of food in the life of Nelson Mandela.
