Hemingway's Mall brings Christmas to underprivileged
Hemingway's Mall, in East London, shares the joy of Christmas this year with 20 local homes for children and the old by distributing hampers filled with many daily essentials. The food, toiletries, treats and toys, valued at R50 000, will be distributed two days before Christmas. Partnering Hemingways Mall in this initiative is Dis-Chem, which has supplied all the toiletries at cost and Pick n Pay, which contributed R1000 in discounts for the hamper contents.
The recipient homes were identified and selected with the input of East Londoners, various local organisations, as well as suggestions from the mall's Facebook site.
"This holiday is all about sharing the comforts we have, no matter how big or small," says Hemingway's Mall centre manager Rachel Klaasen. "Everyone should be able to sit down to a good, nutritious meal on this day and we are doing our best to make sure this happens.
"We have enjoyed incredible support from the community over the last year and this is one of the ways in which we are giving back in a meaningful way, on behalf of all our shoppers," she concludes.
