Top Indian hospital management group enters the African market

Hosmac India (Pty) Ltd, with operations in India and Dubai, and which counts UNICEF, WHO and the European Commission among its high-profile clients, is entering the African market.

The healthcare industry in India is on a path of fast growth with liberalization, opening up of the insurance sector, improving economic indicators, increasing awareness amongst communities for quality healthcare, and a rapid wave of privatization sweeping across all sectors. This has resulted in a requirement for special skills sets to plan, execute and manage globally competitive healthcare infrastructures. Hosmac India is a leading consulting organization that has grown in just 10 years to become a major crusader in hospital planning and management concepts in India.

The company now intends to capitalize on its skills sets and experience in the healthcare industry to expand its scope of services in India as well as abroad – Africa being a major focus.

“We feel that it is important to establish a working relationship with the countries of the African continent and the adjoining region and integrate with teams and efforts in Africa so that we become a part of healthcare development initiatives taking place in this part of the world,” said a Hosmac spokesperson. In addition, the company is developing strategic partnerships with development partners, international NGOs and other agencies for providing requisite technical support in implementation and monitoring and evaluation of health-sector programs in the developing countries.

Hosmac recently won the contract to set up a healthcare facility at Mumbai International Airport after an international competitive bidding process. The company also won the contract for the business process improvement study for Agha Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya. The company sees a great potential in Africa and regards the Kenyan opportunity as a stepping-stone for creating a working relationship in the African market. They regard their participation at the Pan African Health Congress 2007 as their first step to explore African Market.

The company has a fully owned subsidiary set up in Dubai at Dubai Healthcare City (Hosmac Middle East FZLLC) and will channel all overseas business through this Middle East office. The company is also seriously looking at business process outsourcing for healthcare architectural work from the countries such as the UK, US and other developed nations. This HDPO (Healthcare Design Process Outsourcing) would be a new segment in the company's operations. In addition, Hosmac is keen to develop alliances and synergy for the public health consultancy in developing countries.

Hosmac India (Pty) Ltd has handled more than 200 projects worth 6 billion INR (about US$152 million) and designed 325000 square metres of healthcare facilities as consultants. With more than 175000 man-hours of management consulting expertise, the company plans to redefine the healthcare delivery solutions in India and abroad.
