Coca-Cola Israel recalls products 'with tainted gas'

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL: Coca-Cola Israel announced on Tuesday, 1 December 2009, it was recalling several products because of "quality problems".

The soft drinks giant said a quiet recall begun last week was being expanded following a problem at the plant that makes carbon dioxide for the beverages.

Coca-Cola Israel CEO Tal Raban told Channel 10 television that the affected drinks had a "sulphurous smell."

"We emphasize that there is no health risk. The publication of the list is intended to remove any doubt about the quality of our products," Coca-Cola said in a statement earlier.

It said the recall applied to all products made at the factory between 17 and 23 November, and included Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Diet Sprite and Kinley Soda.

The company said that most of the tainted products had been intercepted at the factory gates, but that some managed to reach supermarket shelves.

It urged consumers to inspect production dates on the drinks and return those manufactured on the problematic dates, and apologized to consumers for the inconvenience.
