Making petitions more effective
A local website has been created by Gerald Yapp of In-Detail Advertising and Design to assist South Africans wanting to build and distribute effective petitions. The website is free to all and allows users to sign up and begin creating and sending out petitions right away.
www.mypetition.co.za aims to give users a voice to make a difference through the convenience and distribution power of the Internet. Unlike traditional email petitions that are sent from user to user, with no information being collected at a central point, the website ensures that every signature is counted toward the petition total and ultimately toward the petition goal.
Comments Yapp, “I often received petitions in email that I wanted to sign, but was frustrated knowing that nothing would come of it. I created the website to make sure that online petitions could be more successful in South Africa, and that voices could be heard.”
The website includes viral capability by allowing supporters to send the petition to friends to sign, either by adding in addresses manually or importing them directly from contacts. All visitors are encouraged to refer petitions to a friend.
