Since the inception of the TAMS Meter Panel in 1989, cell weighting has been used to gross the results up to the TAMS meter universe with cell-weighting only. Gender, age and language are used as weighting variables, meaning that non-weighting variables such as LSMs and income are not weighted to their correct proportions.
After months of experimentation with RIM weighting in parallel to cell weighting, the TAMS Council has now decided that we are ready to switch over to the use of RIM rather than cell weightings. The advantages of RIM weightings are that you can balance the panel on more variables than is possible with cell weighting, particularly when you work with a relatively small sample (e.g. LSMs will in future become weighted variables on TAMS which will greatly improve TV-planning based on them). More details will be provided during the presentations.
These presentations will also be used to update users on other important developments in the field of television audience measurement.
