Downloading music, online libraries coming

Legal music downloads are fast becoming the new way forward in the way consumers want to buy and listen to their music and this is not just restricted to consumers but music and media production houses too. Throughout the creative industries, from music to film, entertainment, advertising and publishing, content is being sliced and diced, personalised and downloaded.

The digital revolution is truly upon us and we are ensuring we keep up with the trend internationally to meet the needs of our local and international clients. Artists and music producers want to listen to and experience any music, in any form, at any time and in any place.

The definition of content has changed. We are moving from a packaged to a non-packaged world. CDs are becoming a lot less pretty. It's not just about discs containing different genres of music - the consumer can now pull content off the web in the format and bite size they want.

Online digital libraries

Online digital libraries and music downloads could in the next five years surpass physical media like CDs. The industry is very aware of the fact that CD sales are down due to music downloads and the days of CDs are numbered. Digital audio has permanently changed how people find, buy and listen to music.

Digital downloads are the future of music as these satisfy all the needs that people have when it comes to music — easy to find, easy to buy, and easy to listen to, regardless of the device. To heed the changes in the industry, the company will in the near future introduce a new web based music platform called Mmino.net that contains a diverse collection of music and data from independent composers for music artists, placement in advertisements, TV programmes, films and other new media outlets.

This will give listeners direct easy access to an online library with over 4000 commercial music scores covering a vast range of themes, styles and production qualities. It allows artists, who may not have the time or music background, to pick the best music for their projects from the selection of top quality tracks.

It will have bite size teasers online, compartmentalised into various genres to make it easier to select the music artists want for their album. With nine highly experienced composers including myself as well as composers from Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia, there is a mix of styles of genres to choose from and music is continuously uploaded onto the site.

It also gives new and upcoming song writers a platform to showcase their music on the website and become an accredited writer that has exposure throughout the world.

While the demise of CDs will still take a while, the rise of digital downloads cannot be ignored and should be embraced by the music and production industries and artists alike, because ultimately the consumer is king - and this is what the consumer is clearly demanding.
