Travelling DVD writer

“The new eTAU108 DVD writer from Lite-On is targeted at notebook and netbook users who own machines that do not have internal DVD writers. It is extremely light and portable, tough, travels well, is extremely easy to use and is fully plug and play,” says Werner Joubert, personal systems and storage business manager Rectron, commenting on the company's latest release. “With its suggested retail price of less than R699, it is clearly a very cost-effective option.”

Joubert explained that its robust design is underscored by its top-loading functionality: “While it looks like your average USB DVD writer, it pops open from the top instead of needing a tray mechanism, which makes it very easy to use.” Most other USB DVD writers use front-loading tray or slot type drives, which not only make them heavier, but also more prone to failure.

The unit also features Super AllWrite, a compatibility standard from the manufacturer that enables it to read, write and re-write to any disc format on the market. It has convenient slot to store the unit's USB cable in the base of the unit and its power supply comes directly from the notebook through this enclosed USB cable, so there is no need to be close to a power socket to operate the drive.
