SMC Networks, a global provider of LAN hardware and broadband connectivity devices, has announced the launch of its Wireless N portal - http://wlan.smc.com. This online reference point is designed to educate and promote the benefits of wireless connectivity in the home, SoHo and the SME environment.

Available in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese, the portal outlines the Wireless N standard, how it works and the advantages of wireless networking within the various spheres of IT deployment.

Paul Luff, country manager at SMC Networks South Africa, says, “We are very excited about this latest development and it is very much in line with our ongoing international strategy to reinforce education around current and emerging trends within networking. It is a particularly valuable business tool for the developing small-to-medium segment of the marketplace as operators seek to make strategic decisions around cost effective, business-building technology and increase their competitive advantage.”

Explained using simple terminology and visual diagrams, the portal is easily accessible for both the savvy technical engineer and the home user. The FAQs section on the portal breaks down any technical jargon and industry wide standards in the realms of wireless technology.

“Wireless is now widely available and more often than not, the common choice of networking method in the home and small office, due to its low-cost, high speed, increased range and flexibility that it offers to its users,” comments Thierry Gonon, General Manager EMEA at the company.

“Therefore users need to be as clued up as possible as to the benefits and applications they can utilise on such a connection. Our expertise in Wireless N solutions is well recognised throughout the industry and is only reiterated by our award-winning products. The portal will act as a further method to deliver this expertise in an easy to digest format and also keep customers informed of new developments in this area, as when they happen.”

Wireless connection provides low-cost, flexible networking without the need for expensive or intrusive cabling systems.

The new portal outlines how the technology can be utilised in allowing desktop PCs and laptops to be accessed anywhere in the house or office. With high performance now comparable with wired connections, Wireless N is fast becoming the networking method of choice. Additionally, the literature discusses the importance of moving technology to become compliant with the IEEE 802.11n-draft 2.0 standard.
