Sounds good

Bad acoustics will almost certainly seriously impair an otherwise good recording, be it of a piece of commercial music, or a piece of music or other audio for an advertisement or marketing campaign.

Barrier Productions has developed an affordable, professional solution for young up-and-coming studios, and band practice rooms to help improve acoustics and soundproofing.

The company has spent two and a half years developing a new range of locally manufactured acoustic treatment panels under the name of Barrier Acoustics. The range consists of five retail products namely, Pyramid, Wedge, Corrugated, Corner Blocks and Base Traps. The Pyramid, Wedge and Corrugated panels are all 600x600x70mm, the Base Trap is 310x310x600mm and the Corner Block is 350mm square. The products are designed to counter echo, flutter and reverberation and improve the quality of the sound.

The biggest driver for this project was to keep the price down but at the same time, provide the local market with a professional product.

Kevin Barnard, Barrier Productions http://www.livethemusic.co.za spokesperson, says, “When we started the process of building our recording studio in Kempton Park, we found that in order to treat room acoustics, you had to have large amounts of money or you had to be inventive, and come up with your own ideas. At the same time, we have seen so many young people start there own studios, only to land up with bad sounding recordings all because of the bad planning and room acoustics”.

There are plans to diversify the product range, which is priced from about R185 to R195, over the next six months.
