New PnP stand-alone store proving successful

In its first stand-alone convenience store, opened last week in Lotus River, Western Cape, the Pick n Pay group has noted that trading has exceeded expectations.

"The store is an exciting development for the group and for our shoppers in the area, who now have the convenience of a store close to them," said Izak Joubert, property and store development director at Pick n Pay.

The 1527m² store carries 6000 lines and employs 98 staff. "Among these, 19 were promoted to their positions from other stores and nine were internal transfers from other stores. We're delighted that we were able to recruit 35 new members of staff from the local community.

"We are also pleased to make two new management appointments from non-management staff, providing an opportunity for career development."

The store has a full-service bakery providing delicious baked goods, a hot food deli, a large produce department, as well as pre-packaged butchery offerings and pre-packed deli meats.

"This store, the first of its kind in the province, was developed after research showed a very clear need for a new, convenience offering for the people of the area. The location and range offered in the new store provides great access and a wonderful shopping experience," he concludes.
