"As one of Pick n Pay's longest serving and hardest working people, Kevin's retirement is extremely well-deserved and we will miss his leadership, charm and humour.

"He best illustrates how dedication leads to success," CE Nick Badminton said.

The group said Korb's successor would be confirmed in due course and Peter Arnold would be acting merchandise director in the interim.

Arnold is the head of Fresh Foods and played an integral part in the opening of Pick n Pay's new generation flagship store, Pick n Pay on Nicol.
