Rosemary Hare to chair PR Industry Advisory Committee

Rosemary Hare, a well-known figure in the local PR industry, was recently elected unopposed as chairperson of the Cape Technikon’s Public Relations Industry Advisory Committee.

This is yet another feather in her cap - she won the category of Professional Businesswoman of the Year 2001 in the Western Cape regional finals, for the annual competition staged by the South African Council for Businesswomen and ABSA.

The Public Relations Industry Advisory Committee is a co-operative venture between the Cape Technikon and the industry, which has been active for twelve years. Industry members are approached to join the committee to give their input to aspiring practitioners who will join their industry.

Some of the areas the Advisory Committee will review are improvement of the syllabus or the experiential training programme.

"We are particularly fortunate to have Rosemary Hare as new chairperson of the Public Relations Industry Advisory Committee. Not only has she been a loyal and active member of the committee for many years, but she is also a student employer and training provider. She is therefore perfectly positioned to give direction to the academic staff and the co-operative education process. But, most importantly, she embodies two qualities that we try to instil in our students who will be the practitioners of tomorrow: professionalism and commitment. As a successful and respected member of the industry, she brings credibility to the committee as well as to our public relations programme as a whole.

"On behalf of my department I want to welcome her and congratulate her on yet another achievement. It is a sacrifice in terms of time and effort, but, in the end, it is education and, ultimately, the profession that gains. And that is what it’s all about," said Dr. Johann van der Merwe, Head of the Department of Public Relations Management, at the Cape Technikon.
