In 2006, he was the first Australasian recipient of the Irving Wunderman Award for Lifetime Creative Achievement from the John Caples Awards in New York. During his eight years as creative director at AIM Proximity, he played a significant role in driving the agency to become the most awarded direct and digital agency in the world. Following this, he went on to co-found Saatchi & Saatchi DGS, which scooped AdMedia's Agency of the Year title in 2009.

With over 20 years experience in marketing, advertising and direct communication, with multiple accolades from around the world, he has the knowledge and passion for the brand communication industry, which he regularly shares through mentoring, lecturing and judging international awards. Having chaired the Loeries Experiential panel in 2009, the awards are proud to welcome him back to South Africa.

"It was an inspirational time. I was highly impressed with the standard of work and my fellow jury members were a wonderful bunch of people," says Shirtcliffe, who saw his experience at the Loeries as the highlight of his judging so far. "I can't wait to see the latest work, connect with old friends, and make some new ones."

In addition to judging award shows such as Cannes, John Caples, AWARD, ECHO, and New Zealand's AXIS and RSVP's, Shirtcliffe has also spent time helping to grow the creative reputation of Proximity BBDO Canada, as executive vice president creative director. He is also a trustee for two charitable trusts and a family man at heart - coaching his daughter's soccer team and his son's touch-rugby team in his spare time.
