What is true Power?

Charlotte Lavine takes a look at what genuine Power actually means.

The word power conjures up a particular mindset. It creates images of strength and wealth. The ability to control people, outcomes, and found dynasties. It's politics. It's business and corporate clashes. It's what makes the world go round. It's why battles are fought and wars are won. It's what we all seek. Or is it?

Genuine power is a quiet inner strength that is composed of the following:

  • A Positive attitude that enables one's determination to overcome challenges and view a bigger overall picture than just one's own very small piece of the jigsaw.
  • An ability to look for Opportunities wherever they may exist even although the world may be looking dismal at that particular point in time.
  • A determination and discipline that allows one to Work at it and keep focussed no matter what other distractions may arise.
  • A key ingredient is Enthusiasm. That is the catalyst. Enthusiasm is born out of a natural childlike curiosity that makes the world such an exciting and fascinating place.
  • And then, there's Results. The fruit of all our endeavours.

Real power is not power over - but rather co-operative power. A joining of creativity, innovation and skill to produce a desired outcome, for the benefit of all. Along the route different leaders may emerge to guide the process as we team together to achieve a shared, desired vision.

Ah, but I hear you whisper, "I feel I've given all my power away or lost it somewhere on the way." Not so.

The best-kept secret is that power is already within each one of us. We merely need to believe it and put it into practice one letter at a time. Then watch the world change, as you emerge renewed and Powerful.
