Franchising News South Africa

Placing accent on clothes

Italian fashion icon Sasch, with more than 250 stores in Europe and Asia, has brought its brand to SA for the first time.

The first two South African Sasch outlets opened in The Glen shopping centre in Johannesburg last December and in Eastgate Mall in March, with the next one planned for Sandton.

Franchise opportunities

Sandra Moya, the master franchisor for Sasch in SA, says: "We are expanding in SA and there are business opportunities for people who want to own stores. Typically, those with extra money to spend who feel inclined to open a shop could be among the beneficiaries.

"We are in a recession but I believe that if you start early and get a head start over other players you can establish yourself at the same time as the brand itself is being established in SA."

The Sasch clothing range is styled and designed in Florence and consists of ladies' and men's clothing, from casual and evening wear to more formal attire.

Moya says that the Sasch business model is chain store based and not a boutique concept, thus enabling prices to be kept at reasonable levels. It is exclusive to Africa.

Sponsorship

Sasch is the main sponsor of the Miss Italy contest around the world, says Moya, "so there is a substantial degree of exposure for the brand name via this kind of promotion.

"As a prominent brand and main sponsor, the fact that Sasch supports the Miss Italy competitions on the world stage, as well as internally within Italy itself - with a great deal of marketing backing - adds significantly to the brand value."

All the Miss Italy contestants are dressed by Sasch. SA's Miss Italy contestant Chanel Waterson will take part in the Miss Italy contest on Italian soil.

"We needed something in the clothing brand to enhance the Italian image in this country."
