Visit Film South Africa

Film South Africa, the organisation formed recently to market the South African Film Industry on a global scale, will be utilising the 'Go See Film Expo' at the Cape Town Convention Centre this weekend, 15 - 16 October 2004, as a launch pad for its new membership drive.

The 'Go See Film Expo' is the first of its kind here in South Africa, offering the film industry the opportunity to showcase its new equipment, demonstrate its improved services and generally interact with both other members of the industry and the public as a whole. Photographers will be mixing with filmmakers, production companies with suppliers, and models with talent scouts. This will give members of the public the chance to gain a real insight into the world of film-making and stills photography. And it's not all work either. There will be fun events going on throughout the day in aid of charity, including the New Faces Model Competition, the Stunt Demonstration and Challenge, a game of Giant Monopoly, and many more.

This Expo provides the perfect opportunity, with all the film industry players together under one roof, for Film South Africa to generate support and sign-up new members.

Film South Africa is an initiative started by a group of industry individuals with the desire to reinforce and market the South African film brand. Faced with ever increasing competition from emerging markets, a tighter world economy and a strengthening currency, this initiative is aimed at reminding international filmmakers, advertising agencies and production companies of the very reasons South Africa remains a premier filming destination.

When one compares the South African film industry with those of key competitors like Australia, Brazil and Argentina, it comes across very much as a divided force. Each territory speaks from its own voice with its own Commission and each company within each territory stands alone in terms of international marketing.
