Gamble on Savante

South African actor Stelio Savante last week announced that he has been attached to the supernatural thriller Tamora Gamble and will star opposite Angela Bettis (Girl Interrupted) as her ex-boyfriend.

2008 was a year filled with writer's union (WGA) strikes and minimal film studio production (no studio film has been greenlit since May of 2008 due to the threat of an actor's strike [SAG]), but Savante managed to finish the year on a high note.

After working opposite Tom Sizemore as a mob hitman in the action thriller Corrado, Savante portrayed a drug dealer in Tim Chey's Live Fast Die Young. Both independent films are scheduled for release in 2009.

Savante also portrayed Russian war general 'Sergei' opposite Jenny McCarthy in the live action simulated video game Command and Conquer Red Alert 3.

Finally, his two-episode web pilot guest lead to a role on My Own Worst Enemy for NBC. Savante's character was a complex military informant suffering from Dementia, and was based on Christian Slater's role for the same series.

There was the worldwide release of scifi franchise flick, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, in which he portrays a bug-killing futuristic soldier who falls for an air stewardess. The film has reportedly been met with box office success in Japan and outstanding DVD sales throughout Europe and the US. Marauder was shot on location in Cape Town, where Savante returned for the first time in 11 years.

In 2007, Nicky Greenwall chose Savante as one of South Africa's most promising actors in Hollywood in her Oscars coverage edition of Showbiz Report for E-News.
