Cape Town gets ready for the KayOscars

The film industry is about to be rocked once again at the third annual KayOscars awards ceremony, taking place on October 4th, 2003 at a glittering funfilled evening at Thunder City.

This lively and innovative award ceremony pays tribute to the actors, models and characters who contribute so much to the success of the Cape Town film industry – particularly to the making of commercials.

The occasion also offers the hosts and major sponsor, Kayos Casting Directors, the opportunity to acknowledge those clients, agents, suppliers and colleagues who put so much into building an industry to be proud of.

Kayos first introduced this event in 2000 as a fun and energetic send up of the Oscars. It proved a fabulous theme for their annual party for clients and agents. Along with the red carpet, limousines, screaming fans, paparazzi and high fashion the attendees were entertained by a classic show line up where the nominees' auditions and the final product are up for judging. Along with the humour and tongue in cheek judging process are also some serious awards for "Life-Time Achievement", "Best Effort At Castings" and "Most Inspirational Artist". This year sees the introduction of a new award "Dangerously Close to International Stardom" which will go to a local artist who is about to 'hit the big time'.

The event was so successful that it seemed there was a desperate need for something of this nature to celebrate and showcase Cape Town talent. At present there are no award ceremonies that included casting or talent achievements in their line-up and Kayos felt that the artists were not being recognised for their valuable input to the success of the industry – the solution – the KayOscars!

With the highly successful format now set and plenty of humour guaranteed this year's awards have also included a more serious element. Charity. All proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to two charities: Street Universe and The Shine Centre. Both charities do enormously powerful work with children from disadvantaged communities – equipping and aiding them with life skills, education and moral guidance that go to ensuring that these youngsters have more chances at a better life. As the success of South Africa and any industry within it depends so much on social stability – Kayos have nominated these two organisations as worthy recipients of the proceeds of this years' awards.
