The 7th Southern African international film & television market

Sithengi is Southern Africa's very own international film and television market. Sithengi 2002 will be held from the 9th to the 14th of November at the Artscape theatre complex, Cape Town, South Africa. Styled as Africa's Premier Media Event, Sithengi attracts over 1500 delegates from more than 42 countries.

Sithengi features an exhibition/trade show, conferences, educational meetings, workshops, pitching forums, a film festival, seminars, training workshops and numerous networking functions.

Broadcasters and producers attend from Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia and Ghana, this year we will be receiving increasing support from industry professionals from the francophone countries in sub-Saharan Africa. As a result Sithengi aims to become the market place for Africa as a whole.

In addition to African broadcasters and producers from around the continent, delegates include sales agencies from South African, European, and European-based American studio networks and television channels, a number of international buyers and co-producers plus many independent producers, directors and film professionals from throughout the world.

Sithengi's core programmes are the Product Market, which deals in the buying and selling of completed product. The Pitching Forum which aims to bring about the buying and selling of ideas film and television programmes yet to be made which may require development or co-production partners, or a combination of investment and pre-sales.

The 1st Sithengi film Festival, Cape Town will run from the 9th to the 14th of November 2002. To add to this there will also be a Children's Festival included and will culminate in awards been given out to programmes and films children favour. Resfest, a festival of digital filmmaking that incorporates a showcase of African Digital Film is to become part of the staple of events Sithengi has to offer with screenings and workshops too!

Sithengi thereby provides a unique platform for the trade in film and television programming, allowing industry practitioners from around the world to forge new relationships and to buy, sell and promote their products on an international scale in an African context.
