FMCG New business South Africa

Nkunzi buys Unsgaard Packaging

Unsgaard Packaging based in the Cape, has been bought by Nkunzi Investment Holdings, a BBBEE-rated company. This is a black-owned and controlled investment company, owned in the majority, by management with the remaining equity being held by Phinda Investments, Mehlesizwe Trust, a broad-based development trust and Investec Bank.

The transaction was finalised in September 2009. The company, which has a 70-year history as a manufacturer of a wide range of fine quality paper-related disposable products, including Cherubs, Petals, Comfitex, Cool Wipes and home-care under the Hygenix brand, will operate with a management team of managing director, Nils Stromnes, marketing director Samantha Geyle and sales director, Byron Kane.

“It is our intention to continue to promote and drive the reputable and established brands within this business and to nurture growth and development through innovative marketing, quality product development and exceptional service to the Unsgaard customers,” says Nkunzi Unsgaard chairperson, Patrick September.

The new Unsgaard directors bring a wealth of experience to the business. Stromnes, Geyle and Kane have worked together for the past seven years, successfully building a number of well-known brands in the FMCG arena. In addition, a number of the original company staff have been retained as part of the new management team.
