Reduced rates for international calls

MTN has reduced rates for international calls. MTN customers can expect to pay up to 60% less for calls to international destinations.

The new rates will be applicable when an MTN customer (contract or Pay as you Go) makes a voice call, while in South Africa, to any number on a network outside of South Africa (fixed or mobile). This should not be confused with International Roaming, where an MTN customer travels to another country and is able to make and receive calls.

With the new international call rates, the company's contract customers will experience a saving of up to 29% depending on their calling destination and customers on their Pay as You Go scheme will save up to 60%.

The company has also created a simpler, transparent rate structure. Before making a call, its customers are now able to calculate exactly how much a call is going to cost them, thus eliminating the nasty surprise when they get their monthly bill, or suddenly finding a chunk of their airtime has been consumed.

In addition to the newly reduced international call rates, for a promotional period extending from 3 March until 3 April 2008, the company's customers will enjoy an even lower call rate of R1.99 per minute for international calls to the UK, USA, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
