Sony signs Rockstar for PS3 exclusive
Sony is getting back together with its old friend Rockstar Games to produce a new franchise of titles that will only be available on the PlayStation 3. Rockstar is the company behind the controversial "Grand Theft Auto" series, which produced several of the hits the PlayStation 2 rode to its top-selling status years ago. Can the right series do the same for Sony's latest console?
Perhaps hoping that lightning can strike the same company twice, Sony (NYSE: SNE) announced Friday it has signed an exclusive deal with Rockstar Games, maker of the famous and infamous "Grand Theft Auto" (GTA) series, to bring a new upcoming franchise exclusively to the PlayStation 3 (PS3).
The deal is a rarity in the industry, as game developers wait to see how the current generation of gaming consoles shakes out.
