Petrol price to increase by 93 cents

The petrol price will rise by 93 cents this week, said the Energy Department on Friday.

A litre of 95 ULP will now cost R11.97 in Gauteng while it will cost R11.62 at the coast as of Wednesday, 5 September 2012.

A litre of both Diesel 0.05% Sulphur and Diesel 0.005% Sulphur will increase by 69cents per litre.

Illuminating paraffin wholesale will increase by 73 cents and Illuminating Paraffin (Single Maximum National Retail price) is to increase by 97 cents.

"During the period under review, the average international product prices of Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin increased," said the department.

Additionally on 24 August the Energy Minister approved that the retail margin on all grades of petrol be increased by 3.5 cents a litre with effect from 5 September.

"This increase is necessary in order for service station operators to finance the wage increases for service station pump attendants and cashiers," the department said.

In August, the petrol price rose by 22 cents.
