Growing centre of attraction in KZN's west
Designed by Boogertman and Partners and currently under construction by Grinaker LTA Building, it is situated on the intersection of the N2 & M13 highways near the University of Durban-Westville. Earthworks commenced in November 2006 and the centre is due to open to the public on 25 September 2008.
Following extensive research, which revealed a gap in the market for a regional centre with a difference, the new Westwood Mall was developed to offer shoppers in the region a more comprehensive, more convenient alternative to The Pavilion and a larger, aesthetically pleasing alternative to the smaller, older centres in the area. It will be anchored by Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Edgars, Truworths and the Foschini and Mr Price Groups, who will be joined by a selection of 150 other top branded stores and gourmet eateries.
Phases 1 and 2 of the Westwood Estate development sold out within 48 hours and, according to owners and developers, the mall is poised to establish itself as an equally popular retail experience. Architecturally, the design and finishes are ultra contemporary, incorporating natural materials such as wood and stone, and making use of lots of natural light.
There are approximately 73,000 people already living within the new centre's primary catchment area comprising Westville, Berea West, Clare Hills, Palmiet and Sherwood - most of them in the middle to affluent group - and developers have ensured that every aspect of the shopping environment is aesthetically pleasing and of a high standard, in order to match this discerning customer's demands. A growth of at least 600 to 1,000 new housing units is expected in the area soon, as well as new office developments, and the new centre will add great value to residents and office workers alike.
