The competition is open to fashion design students who are registered at recognised South African tertiary institutions. This year, challenges are offered to first, second and final-year students, thus creating the opportunity to scout for talent in various stages of the students' careers. What is special about the first-year category is that it gives talented disadvantaged students the opportunity to win R20,000 to further their studies. The competition prizes vary from study bursaries and fashion vouchers to cash prizes, altogether totalling over R70,000. With design-briefs that explore the assorted Summer 2008 trend line-up, the competition promises to be more exciting than ever before, and students will really be able to unleash their creativity.
Award-winning South African designer Craig Native is once again joining the team of judges for the competition. Native has been part of the initiative for many years, expending his experience and expertise, while lending valuable advise to up-and-coming fashion hopefuls.
The competition opened on 31 March, and entry forms and details are available from fashion design departments of tertiary institutions across the country. All interested students should speak to their lecturers for information on the competition brief, or log on to www.foschini.co.za
