Creatives and audiences will be placed in a world of cool variety as the audience is exposed to the talent, and the creatives to the audience. The multi-disciplinary nature of the digital media creation process is showcased when the art of graphic design, motion graphics, interactive media, music, and design (ergonomics) are placed in the spotlight.
This battle of creative minds is set to take place at the Roxy's Rhythm Bar in Melville on Tuesday, July 23, kicking off at 8pm.
The evening will be sliced into three different events - the Death Match, Spotlight On, and the VJ Battle.
For players, this is the ultimate adrenaline rush in design. Five set tasks are declared a week before the event. The first two contenders are challenged by the MC, are briefed on a set task and receive a time limit in which to complete it.
The contenders design and animate in "real time" as the audience follows this creation process on big screens. Skill, strategy and aesthetic all play a role in the outcome. The audience chooses the winner after a battle of 10 minutes. The winner challenges the next contender, and another battle ensues.
In this category, contestants (freelance designers/animators) battle it out on stage, but are armed with pre-prepared content (agreed to by the organisers). Support motion graphics for South African music are exhibited, and the creative worlds of SA music and design are fused in this exciting showcase.
The battle of maximum expression! This category operates without a brief. There is a dance stage, two large screens, and the best music! The VJ or Visual DJ Battle combines the talents of the DJ and the motion graphics designer and animator.
This category sees the graphical content mixed or triggered by music in "real time". The performance by the artist begins the moment the music is played and mixed by the DJ. Audiences can revel in both the creation of music and visuals!
The battle allows patrons to play personal battle-related games at the event, challenging each other to games such as Medal of Honour. Contenders battle one-on-one. The winner challenges the next contender, and another battle of Playstation skill gets under way.
The event will kick off at 8pm and local music talent will entertain audiences all night.
