However, organisers say that the Challenge is also a strong team-building exercise injected with elements of fun.
"There is a strong correlation between this event and our brand-values of human interest, nature and quality of content," says the Regional Sales Director of Discovery, Holland, Sandra Tielenburg. "The Challenge also raises awareness about the Discovery channel. This is in contrast with many other companies that run events which do not tie in with their products." Tielenburg goes on to say that in Holland, the Discovery Challenge was once voted as the best media event.
International Discovery Channel representatives are set to arrive in South Africa soon, to advise the local organisers in terms of the format of the Challenge, so that it complies with others around the world in terms of level of difficulty and terrain. The winning teams from the various competing countries will be jetting off to compete in the finals in Spain. Starcom were the victors of the local event last year, whilst Norway won at the finals.
