NEWSWATCH: As South Africa's president arrived in the UK on a state visit, a columnist writing in Britain's Daily Mail described Jacob Zuma as a ‘sex-obsessed bigot', reports The Citizen, and in turn, Zuma says he's not surprised by the comments - he reckons the British regard Africans as ‘barbaric' and ‘inferior', reports IOL, which also reports that The Citizen is considering an appeal in a defamation action in which Robert McBride took issue with the newspaper describing him as a murderer.
IOL: The British think we're barbaric, says Zuma… He says that given what he believes to be the way in which Britons regard Africans, the media reception he got in the UK did not surprise him.
IOL: Newspaper yet to decide on McBride…The Citizen may appeal to the Constitutional Court after the Supreme Court of Appeal found in favour of McBride; the court ruled The Citizen was wrong in referring to McBride as a murderer in a series of articles in 2003.
