XMA Cross Media Awards for 2009
The focus this year, in co-operation with the Society for News Design, was on “Cross Media Design and Branding.” The winning entries will be on display in a special exhibition in Hall A, Stand 870 at IFRA Expo (12 -15 October 2009) in Vienna:
Winners
Category A - Small Publications (circulation: below 100 000 copies per day):
1. Antreprenor together with Guvernul Privat (Catavencu, Romania).
2. Rock Stars (Herald Express, United Kingdom).
3. dBalears (Hora Nova, Spain).
Category B - Medium-sized Publications (circulation: 100 000 to 250 000 copies per day):
1. 24sata MMM brand (24sata, Croatia).
2. Hessens erste Mitmachzeitung (GZ Medien, Germany).
3. Vecernji + (Vecernji list, Croatia).
Category C - Large Publications (circulation: more than 250 000 copies per day):
1. Die Welt - from the newspaper brand to the media brand” (Axel Springer, Germany).
2. Bild Dir Deine Werbung (Axel Springer, Germany).
3. Marca (Unidad Editorial, Spain).
Mario García, renowned newspaper designer and one of this year's XMA jurors, says, “They came from 16 countries, representing 26 publications and they all had one thing in common: taking the well-known and respected brand of their newspaper and extending it beyond the old definitions of everything from news to advertising. In doing so, they attracted new audiences and infused their brands with an energy and level of interactivity that we have only seen in its infancy.”

XMA 2010 focus on Mobile
Next year's competition will feature the ever-changing world of mobile and how its applications for the publishing world succeed in a cross-media environment.
