Bruce, Haffajee for international media forum

Two of South Africa's eminent editors will sit on the South African Editor's Panel at the second International Media Forum South Africa (IMFSA ‘08). Peter Bruce, editor of Business Day, and Ferial Haffajee, editor-in-chief of the Mail & Guardian, have confirmed their participation in the panel, which will discuss SA media trends and its impact on the world's view.

Bruce and Haffajee join a growing list of distinguished international and national media editors who will meet at IMSFA ‘08 to network with SA's top business decision-makers, government officials and communication professionals in a bid to ascertain how both government and business media relations can be improved to support the future economic development of the country.

Forum organiser Fergal Parkinson says he is excited that Bruce and Haffajee will be taking part in this major international conference. “They represent some of the major powerhouses of 21st century African journalism. Together, they possess the integrity and commitment to the values and high standard of journalism that should define the character of SA.

“Address the challenges”

“With Bruce and Haffajee on board, IMFSA '08 should make great inroads into addressing the challenges which still lie ahead in communicating what the country has to offer the international investor community in order to attract the levels of foreign direct investment and trade required for the future.”

Bruce was the former editor of the Financial Mail, while Haffajee was this country's first woman editor of a national newspaper. John Perlman, a former SAfm presenter who is currently with Kaya FM, will chair the conference.

IMFSA '08 will be held 21 – 22 May at The Forum, The Campus, in Bryanston, Johannesburg, and is aimed at anyone who wants to improve and develop their company's or their client's media relations and learn from the experts how best to influence the global media. Those in the government with an interest in, or responsibility for, determining how our country is perceived abroad are also strongly encouraged to attend.

In addition to the forum, the organisers have launched an interactive website where you can discuss and share views, as well as download articles about SA's position in the international media and its impact on the country.
