Update on HIV/AIDS in Africa conference

The first conference with an update HIV/AIDS in Africa is taking place from the 14 - 17 December 2009 in Accra, Ghana. The aim of the annual event is to gather stakeholders to brainstorm through latest information on HIV/AIDS which will ultimately lead to better clinical and behaviour management of HIV/AIDS.

The topics to be discussed include: Basic science and epidemiology, Clinical management of HIV/AIDS, Co-infection, prevention of maternal transmission, Preventive strategies, Opportunistic infections and HIV-associated malignant, Update of HIV therapy, social and behaviour sciences, etc.

Two significant social events have been planned - on 13 December 2009, participants will be joined by other groups for a walk through the principal streets of Accra. Dubbed "Walk of Hope", it is aimed at showing solidarity to those living with the virus and the hardworking scientists.

On 17 December 2009 there will be an AHRO festival, raising funds for the Africa Health Research Organisation's HIV/AIDS project.
