Leaders test on the Tutu Tester

Treatment Action Campaign and the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation will jointly mark the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day by hosting an all-day, free HIV testing event aboard the TUTU TESTER this Sunday 30 November 2008 at NY 115 in Gugulethu near Mzoli's.

Fulfilling the global call for leadership in HIV/AIDS, these two prominent HIV organizations will proudly accompany top leaders in the Western Cape in testing, including Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille and Premier Lynn Brown.

TAC and Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation share the belief that South Africans are in desperate need of role models, especially in regards to testing for HIV. Encouraging people to know their status is a very important entry point into further prevention and treatment of HIV. Mayor Helen Zille, in stepping aboard the TUTU TESTER, will lend her support for this important prevention initiative.

The Tutu Tester, the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation's mobile HIV testing vehicle, was launched in May 2008 and has successfully offered free HIV testing, as well as tuberculosis, STI, and blood pressure screenings to over 3,000 people thus far.

These services will be available to the public all day on Sunday 30 November near the popular venue, Mzoli's, in Gugulethu from 12h00 to 18h00. Look out for the fun, brightly-coloured vehicle, as well as TAC and Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation health advocates who will be available to answer questions and provide further details on staying healthy.
