Woolworths says Jupiter contract ends 31 January 2012

Woolworths issued a statement on Thursday afternoon, 1 December 2011, denying The Jupiter Drawing Room (Cape Town)'s assertion that it was only informed on Tuesday 29 November that Woolworths was moving the account in-house with effect from 1 December: "We wish to clarify that we have, in accordance with our contract with The Jupiter Drawing Room, given the agency two months' notice of our intention to end the agreement. The contract will accordingly come to an end on 31 January 2012."

The statement from Woolworths in full:

We wish to clarify that we have, in accordance with our contract with The Jupiter Drawing Room, given the agency 2 months notice [sic] of our intention to end the agreement. The contract will accordingly come to an end on 31 January 2012.

We have taken a business decision to integrate our advertising into our existing internal creative and visual merchandising structures. This will enable us to maximise efficiencies, streamline our marketing operations and reduce operating costs.

This has not been an easy decision for us to make. Woolworths has enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership with The Jupiter Drawing Room and we thank them for their support over the last five years.
