Loerie Awards all set for October

The Loerie Awards remains the premier creative award ceremony in South Africa. The Loerie Awards' newly appointed executive committee will roll out the red carpet for South Africa's advertising and design awards ceremony to be held in October. Everything is set to go and the call for entries will open in May.

For 365 days, creatives slave away chasing deadlines, brainstorming till 3am, drinking copious amounts of coffee and smoking cartons of cigarettes to ultimately give birth to that elusive one-in-a-million work of brilliance that could win them a coveted Loerie. This year is no exception, the committee was at pains to emphasise on Friday, 18 March 2005.

A panel of local and international gurus will judge The Loerie Awards.

Apart from the award show, the winning entries will be showcased in a national and international traveling exhibition, an ego-flattering annual and a show-it-to-your-kids-
one-day DVD. The executive committee also aims to grow and nurture young, hot talent (who will ultimately dethrone the hotshots of today). So naturally, student entries will also be included in The Loerie Awards and the traveling exhibition will visit all major centres, colleges and schools throughout the country, the committee says in its tongue-in-cheek communiqué, signed by Loerie Awards chairman, Wingwing Mdlulwa.

Here are the categories for The Loerie Awards 2005... drum roll...

Advertising; Design; Direct; Digital; and Corporate Video and Events. "Because you wanted it... we included Multi-Media Integrated Campaigns as a new category"- entries must be made up of at least three of the main categories, e.g. Advertising, Graphic Design and Corporate Events.

"I'm confident that we've listened to what you had to say. The Loerie Awards 2005 will award your creative excellence and promises to be an unbiased process - although the latter will be the topic of conversation for many months to come.

"We look forward to receiving your entries and to the best Loerie Awards ever," Mdlulwa concluded.
