Saatchi & Saatchi seek SA filmmakers for Cannes

The Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors' Showcase is now open to South African directors of all film formats and styles, who have directed their first film, specifically made for advertising purposes, after June 2009. Entries close on Thursday, 24 March 2011.

The showcase is a well attended show at the annual Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival and represents the very best in new directing talent, identified by the agency globally. It will take place on Thursday 23 June 2011 in Cannes, France.

"It is an excellent platform from which to launch new talent and we're hoping that this will encourage local agencies and production houses to look at investing in young directors and submit great work," says Gavin Whitfield, creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi.

He says that the global objective of the showcase is to engage new talent by getting new directors to send in their reels to the showcase, where they have a chance to be highlighted and discovered by their future clients.

Reels may be submitted to Lee-Anne Jacobz at the agency's Cape Town office or to Vernadi Simpson at the Johannesburg office.
