Pendoring entries for 2004: 'bakgat'

Students seem to be having a ball creating sharp and imaginative advertising in Afrikaans. This is evident from the 80 student entries received for this year's Pendoring Advertising Awards which are aimed at promoting and honouring outstanding Afrikaans advertising.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Pendoring has received 325 entries from 44 advertising agencies, training organisations and freelance advertising creators - the most entries to date since the competition started charging an entrance fee eight years ago.

What is particularly encouraging, is the increase in the number of entries received for the newspaper and magazine categories (48). Television entries (20) also showed a marked increase (12) compared to last year. Above-, through- and below-the-line campaigns drew 29 entries, while the new category, Best Authentic South African Advertisement, which was launched last year, drew 18 entries. Entries have been judged by an impressive panel of judges in the past week.

Arjen de Jong, Co-Creative Director for the advertising agency Cygnus X-3 in Amsterdam, is again this year's international judge. In 1998, when he was Pendoring's international judge for the first time, he expressed the wish to retain close ties with Pendoring.
