Reuters, Ecobank in major ad deal

LONDON: Global news and information company Reuters yesterday, Thursday, 14 June 2007, announced a major three-year advertising deal with pan-African bank Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) on its Reuters Africa website. Targeting influential Africans both on the continent and in the Diaspora, the campaign will promote Ecobank's drive to expand across the continent.

The advertisements, which went live on http://africa.reuters.com/ from yesterday, feature the bank's core businesses of investment, transactions, retail, portfolio and savings.

Since its launch in February 2007, Reuters Africa claims that it has established itself as the leading online pan-African news and financial data news portal and says that the deal with Ecobank Transnational is the most significant advertising campaign on the site since it partnered with HSBC on its launch.

Tim Faircliff, Reuters GM, consumer media, UK & Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “This partnership demonstrates Reuters commitment to helping to promote the growth of a vibrant business environment on the African continent, and underlines Reuters ongoing strategy to serve important international markets and to build our global online audience.”

Arnold Ekpe, Ecobank Group's CEO, said: “Partnering with Reuters will provide our group a powerful platform to project its objective of building a world-class pan-African bank.”

Apart from featuring an interactive map to access local Reuters news across the continent, organised by country, the site also provides extensive economic, business and financial news and data, including stock and currency markets and company information, from around the continent. Reflecting the importance of commodities to many African economies, the Reuters Africa features exclusive online content on metals and mining, energy and oil, and agricultural commodities.
