Starck, as famous for his expressionist architecture as his revolutionary approach to the design of a lemon squeezer, was presented the award by D&AD president Dick Powell at the D&AD Global Awards - the most prestigious ceremony in the world for creative practitioners - in London.
"This year, the D&AD President's Award goes to someone with uncompromising creative standards," said Powell. "Someone who has made a difference. Someone who revels in the provocative and who regularly raises a finger to the creative establishment. Someone who consistently polarises opinions and fractures expectations. Philippe Starck is a visionary creative force who has already gone down in history."
The D&AD President's Award was first presented in 1976 to Coin Millward of CDP. Visit www.dandad.org/awards/presidents-award.html for a full list of past recipients.
