    Freedom Week - support press freedom

    The Right2Know campaign calls on society to mark 27 April (Freedom Day), 1 May (Worker's Day) and 3 May (World Press Freedom Day), as opportunities to recognise and celebrate hard-fought battles and hard-won victories in the struggle to realise these rights and to reflect on the challenges that lie ahead.

    It will be hosting a series of events in recognition and celebration of the struggles and victories that all citizens, workers and journalists have fought for, to secure our collective 'freedom'.

    KwaZulu-Natal

    • Thursday 3 May (12.30pm-2pm): "Fighting for the Right2Know" - public seminar. Venue: Centre for Civil Society, MT Building, UKZN
    • Thursday 3 May (12pm-1pm): Roundtable discussion on Media Freedom Venue: Arthur Smith Hall, DUT City Campus
    • Friday 4 May (6.30pm) R2K KZN benefit dinner. Venue: NJM Islamic Centre, Hendry Road, Overport.

    Film festival - Western Cape

    • Monday 30 April (6pm) Site-seeing (documentary on Chappies Toll Saga) and Battle for Hangberg. Venue: Hout Bay, venue tbc
    • Tuesday 1 May (11am) The Trouble with Truth. Venue: COSATU Rally, Good Hope Centre
    • Tuesday 1 May (4pm) The Imam & I. Venue: Labia Theatre, speakers: Khalid Shamis (director) and Zackie Achmat (activist)
    • Wednesday 2 May (6pm) The Battle of Hangberg (followed by discussion with the filmmaker). Venue: Mannenberg People's Centre
    • Wednesday 2 May (7pm) Wikileaks, Wikirebels. Venue: Rooftop Cinema, Penthouse, Long Street
    • Thursday 3 May (6pm) The Most Dangerous Man in America (discussion with Ivor Powell, investigative journalist), Venue: Labia Theatre
