    Build a lodge in Limpopo

South African companies are being encouraged to enter a joint venture with Mozambican companies to build two lodges and a campsite in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park.

Bids are being invited to provide tourism facilities in the 22 300-hectare Madonse concession and 250-hectare Massingir concession.

The Park's Project Manager, Arrie van Wyk, said on Tuesday that South African companies would only be considered for the tender if they entered into a joint tender with a Mozambican company.

“This tender is a Mozambican government initiative and therefore at least 30% of the concessions must be owned by Mozambicans," he explained.

He said the first phase of development would take place on 15 000 hectares of land in the upper Madonse area where a three- to four-star guest lodge will be built, containing up to 48 bedrooms.

The other lodge will also have a maximum of 48 bedrooms and will be built on 7 300 hectares of land in the lower part of the Madonse concession.

Activities at the lodges will include game drives, walks and other camp-based facilities.

In the Massingir concession, on the banks of the Massingir Dam about 8km from the Massingir entrance gate, a camp site will be built that will accommodate 26 caravan stands with 44 self-catering units and 176 beds.

Activities will include swimming pools, slides, sundowner cruises, fishing and other water sports-related activities.

The Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park includes the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique, the Kruger National Park in South Africa and the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe.

Joint venture companies interested in submitting tenders for the projects can call Timoteo Matola on (013) 752 3314.
