Phillips takes consumer lifestyle tour to Malawi
JJ van Dongen, GM for Philips Healthcare Africa and country manager Philips South Africa told Bizcommunity that the second Africa road show from Cape Town to Cairo is set to improve mother and child care and access to solar lighting.
Philips touts itself in integrating technologies and design into people-centric solutions, based on what it calls fundamental customer insights and the brand promise of "sense and simplicity". Van Dongen said this is in consideration that an estimated 560 million Africans live without electricity therefore better lighting is likely to make home child birth safer and help reduce the very high infant mortality rate throughout the continent.
Addressing challenges in Africa
During the show, the Philips team plan to engage with customers, governments, NGOs and media to discuss experiences and insights for addressing key challenges facing Africa today and these include mother and child care, women's healthcare, energy efficient lighting solutions and healthy living.
During the Lilongwe leg of the tour, Philips has partnered with Malawi's local Medical Consultants Africa to equip the country's first e-health diagnostic clinic.
According to David Bisnowaty, proprietor of and an investor in the Centre for Medical Diagnostics, the Centre for Medical Diagnostics will feature fully operating Philips diagnostic equipment that will enhance e-health.
"We are very excited to have such a comprehensive range of Philips diagnostic equipment installed at our clinic. These advanced medical technologies will improve the patient workflow considerably - shortening exam times and leading to increased diagnostic confidence. Our doctors will be able to make more informed decisions faster," he said.
