Bouquets for Bookmarks

It was good news for The Bookmarks, which went down well… descriptions of the event described it as “a blast” and “an amazing event, a memorable night, and a magnificent award”. Well done to all concerned from Bizcommunity.com, and well done to the winners. To those who missed it… don't miss it next time.

On a darker note, it appears some journalists in the Cape have been ‘brown bagging it” (well, brown ‘enveloping' it, really) and if the allegations are true, then those involved have betrayed one of the basic tenets of journalism by writing and manipulating articles to suit a political agenda.

PS In this week's Ornico Ad Showcase, we feature TV ads for Momentum, BMW Z4 Roadster, Bacardi, Sony Ericsson Aino and Ford Everest, and radio ads for ACSA, Bio Plus, FNB, Liberty and MTN.

Can we find love on The Rebound?   MOVIES
[Zeenat Ebrahim] The Rebound explores a new angle to the romantic comedy starring Catherine Zeta Jones in one of her less glamorous roles. The humour gets a thumbs-up and saves the movie from being a long-winded stretch. I however fail to make the romantic connection between a 40-year-old falling for her 25-year-old nanny.

Jack Parow pirate of the caravan park   MUSIC
[Ruth Cooper] Gevaarlike, romantic Afrikaans rapper Zander Tyler, better known as Jack Parow, seems to have exploded out of nowhere and is taking over the SA rap scene, working with big names like Fokofpolisiekar, Heuwels Fantasties and Die Antwoord. Meneer Parow is spreading his dirty-and-dangerous lyrics and music to all he can. BizLounge, keen to get in on the action, invited him round for a coffee and chat - and to find out who the real Jack Parow is.

Be enthralled and freaked out by Quack   THEATRE
[Daphne Cooper] From the Hip: Khulumakahle (FTH:K) is a ground-breaking theatre company that brings together deaf and hearing artists. Quack is their latest piece and it opened at The Intimate Theatre last night. It is well worth seeing, even if just to marvel at how a play can be so powerful when there is neither word, nor facial expression.

Create your own Starry Night, go Artjamming   ART
[Sindy Peters] I never was a painter; my creativity unfortunately is bound to ideas rather than creating pretty pictures on a canvas. I'm in the middle of Painting by Numbers, and that's as good as it gets for me. But, luckily for me, and perhaps you too, you don't have to be a Van Gogh to enjoy Artjamming. You can create your own Starry Night and walk away glad to have done it.

A decade of decadence for FHM   OTHER
[Ilva Pieterse] Dazzling lights, striking models, mouth-watering platters and magnificent music all made up FHM's epic 10th birthday celebration this year at Urban Tree in Sandton on 6 November.

Cape Quarter, a creative masterpiece   OTHER
[Zureta Olivier] Glitz and glam was the essence of the opening of the new Cape Quarters with a guest list topping the who's who in the Cape Town high society. Already probably the most popular hot spot in Cape Town, the developers did justice to this magnificent development combining the old Cape Malay style of De Waterkant with modern upmarket architecture, integrating it into such a creative masterpiece.

Vomit-spitting, gut-spilling sleepwalkers in Zombieland   MOVIES
[Zeenat Ebrahim] Zombieland is apparently not a horror. Let's go with action-comedy as the producers suggest. The movie has an interesting theme despite the awful title. At the very beginning it did cross my mind if there was any point to it. The movie that is.
