After the bubbles and balloons have been blown away [and the streamers untangled from under foot], the comparisons with Cannes noted and winners acknowledged for their distinctive edge and hard work and eclectic fashion sense, consensus seems to be that the annual Loerie Awards have arrived in Cape Town to stay. Positive feedback from key award winners and vox pops reveal that the Mother City undeniably has "something for everybody" - an abundance of creative energy, cool shopping [in which it definitely has the advantage over Margate, where the only thing you could buy were booze, beach wraps or boogie boards] and opportunities for fringe gatherings, launches and house parties to happen alongside during the event [although it's highly unlikely that any of the delegates at this year's Loeries took part in the Nedbank Cape Town Marathon on Sunday, we're certain most of you sure would have felt as if you did...]
The whirlwind of hospitality and cheering is not just about promoting creativity as a self-indulgent ego fest, but as the ultimate business enabler and the opportunity to grow new talent from the ground up. These are, coincidentally, the issues most close to Bizcommunity's heart. We thank the multitude of people and sponsors who have made this Loeries into a water
loggedshed event for the local creative economy.
Here's looking forward to 2010 and beyond - as an industry united through the power of digital!
