[Josh Adler] It's over and I'm pretty knackered. I can happily blame the few guys I went out with last night; an evening rounding off on a high note what has been an interesting conference experience. The conversation into the early hours was deep and intellectual, focusing mainly on past episodes of Top Gear, horseracing and worst cities in the world, while some of us lost money at the roulette table.

[Josh Adler] I'd hoped to blog throughout the proceedings, but while I find the idea of documenting and tweeting stuff in real time novel and webby, you cannot escape the fact that conferences are about person-to-person networking in the real-world! In this way, I suppose I'm not a geek at all, and I love to work an event like this very hard, getting to the people I need to and engaging in the conversations.

[Josh Adler] I arrived in Lisbon and got an email as soon as I got to the hotel requesting my participation in a round-table chat focused on emerging market measurement for Africa and the Middle East. So much for standing for silently on the sidelines! A quick check-in and I was off to register at the conference venue with my Bookmarks 2008 t-shirt to make me easy to spot! Turns out I was a little underdressed. Measurement is the business side of media - even the techies seemed to be in suits yesterday!

[Josh Adler] It’s freezing, and it’s early. I stepped off the plane into transit in Zurich, and am certain I saw snow on the ground around the tarmac. The trick is to get warm liquid into you quickly, and a seat that is more of a couch. Perfect for warming up and booting up to pound out some mail and the odd blog post before my flight to Lisbon.

[Marion Scher] If you mention the name Lance Armstrong this week in South Africa, you’ll be met with mixed reactions. Talk shows are talking and twitterers tweeting. It all started when Armstrong arrived in Cape Town with a full passport – a no-no for admittance to any country in the world. You need at least two blank pages for stamping and you’d think Armstrong, being a world traveller, would know that.

[Terry Levin] The last day of the 2010 Design Indaba conference, Friday, 26 February 2010, turned out to be one of highs and lows, which saw standing ovations for three acts, a mass walk out for one and a medical emergency which briefly halted proceedings. The day also saw the tipping the gender scales, with an eclectic lineup of women – well-known Dutch trend forecaster Li Edelkoort, product designer Christien Meindertsma, Chinese fashion designer Han Feng and American entrepreneur Martha Stewart... [Terry Levin] Do you remember how just a few years ago we were worried about the effects of info overload due to the Internet? Since then we have unwittingly been invaded by the virtually infinite number of platforms that enable us to access everyone's breakfast habits, cute pets and other permutations of the self-expressed 24/7. How stupid are we?

[Dr Graeme Codrington] The first few entries of this blog have focused on trying to understand the future by tracking the trends that are shaping the world around us. This is something I do everyday – watching the world, and looking for the defining moments and shaping stories. One such story from the world of British politics, military and the media caught my eye this week.

[Louise Marsland] Remember how we all went gaga over the story of
Lucky, the one-legged cheetah in the VW Golf ad by Ogilvy Cape Town earlier this year? Well, how about this tale of a one-eyed kitten surviving a journey across Jozi in an Opel engine?

[Marion Scher] So your company needs to nominate a spokesperson – pretty straightforward decision, don’t you think? After all, who are you going to choose, the person with the speech impediment or perhaps someone for whom English is a third language? Maybe an alien from another planet or possibly just someone who doesn’t seem to have enough to do in the office and volunteered?
