Exhibitions are an integral part of the annual business turnover which Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) generates, and they fill an important space at the convention centre.
With its central position within the Sandton business precinct, Sandton Convention Centre offers exhibitors one of the highest visitor attendance ‘draw factors' in the country. And, being named as EXSA's Best Exhibition Venue for three years in succession is testament to the superb facilities that SCC has to offer.

Sandton Convention Centre has already hosted an impressive line-up of exhibitions this year, and this trend is set to continue well into the future with a number of local and international bookings confirmed up to 2010 and beyond. The number of new shows being staged at SCC is also increasing, which is a positive sign. This year has seen the convention centre hosting first-time exhibitions such as the Joburg Art Fair, The Women's Show, Digital Life Expo, the Alternative Energy Expo and the Kenyan Trade Fair, to name but a few.
“An increase in international exhibitors coming to South Africa could be attributed to our country's hosting of the 2010 Soccer World Cup, but there is also a sense that people are looking to identify opportunities to do business in South Africa,” says Mati.
“Examples of these include Soccerex (which SCC will host this year and in 2009), the UK's Tyrexpo and the Arabian Gulf Expo. We have also experienced an increase in international visitors attending local shows such as Meetings Africa, which has become the continent's premier business tourism exhibition and conference.”
Sandton Convention Centre's two main exhibition levels offer a combined floor space of 10 000m², which can accommodate up to 500 stands of 3mx3m in a variety of configurations. Separate access to these two levels is via street level docking and loading areas. The halls are fitted with every resource necessary for the staging of successful and spectacular exhibitions, including ample overhead rigging fixtures and electrical points, air-conditioning and wireless internet connections.
The centre's powerful generators also ensure that there is no loss of power to the conference centre in the instance when the area is affected by power cuts or load shedding. “The generators have been put to the test during load shedding in the Sandton CBD during the past few months, and not one of our exhibitions or functions has been affected in any way,” comments Mati.
