Face Off! Bridging the Communications Frontier
Issued by: Janine Lazarus Media Consultancy

Any good marriage councillor will tell you the fundamental of any relationship is communication. If you want your union to work, you need to understand your partner and speak to them in a language they can grasp to get your point across. This simple rule applies to the dynamic relationship between the power trio consisting of the media, public relations practitioners and communications executives, also known as “the client”.

Janine Lazarus' one-day workshops, “Face Off! Bridging the Communications Frontier”, featuring Janine Lazarus, founder of Janine Lazarus Media Consultancy; Jacob Ntshangase, IAJ Executive Director; Rich Mkhondo, Managing Director of Ogilvy Public Relations is to be held on 22nd and 31st July 2008 at the Pembury Plaza Hotel in Randburg. The workshop has been developed with the view to help you better understand and strengthen the “holy matrimony” between the media and communications practitioners.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to experience what it is like to be in the “Hot Seat” on camera and participate in an interactive program which also features a panel debate to express your views and engage the experts.

Janine Lazarus, facilitator and host of this very significant workshop for today's complex communications environment, has 24 years of experience in the South African (and African) media business, as a journalist, presenter, talk-show host and a cutting-edge media communications trainer. She is the media trainer of choice for a number of local and international blue-chip organisations, government departments and various news rooms. Lazarus' experience will provide you with insight to enhance your knowledge and engage your skills to get your message across and bridge the “lost in translation” relationship that the media, public relations companies and organisations often have.

Guest speakers Rich Mkhondo and Jacob Ntshangase will address key issues around the challenges that journalists and communications practitioners face in their respective sectors in South Africa in 2008 and how to overcome these challenges with opportunity.

Mkhondo is the Managing Director of Ogilvy Public Relations (OPR) Worldwide/South Africa. He is a communications, corporate affairs, public relations executive and writer of international repute. Mkhondo has worked for The Star, Reuters and Independent Newspapers in Washington DC. He started his career at Rand Daily Mail after graduating with a B Journalism and Media Studies from Rhodes University.

Ntshangase has worked for Soul City: Institute for Health and Development Communications as Regional Coordinator for Southern Africa programme. Jacob also serves on the United Nations Development Programme's National Steering Committee for South Africa's Global Environmental Facility, and is a member of the Southern African Development Communities Media Training Steering Committee and the South African National Editors' Forum.

In the words of George Bernard Shaw, “The problem with communications... is the illusion that it has been accomplished.” Ensure you not under any illusions that your relationship is working by equipping yourself with the essential skills and knowledge from the experts.
